Moisturize Well, Laugh Often: Lessons To Live By In 2018
January 4, 2018
So this isn't the type of post that lists all these whimsical ideas on how to find your path to happiness. You could say I'm more of a realist. This is a post of things you should already be doing. The things you owe yourself to start doing because lets face it the only person in control of your happiness and well being is you.
This list is a small compilation of things that have a unique way of making me feel better. It's so easy and can simply enhance your quality of life.
Your body is primarily made of water. When I cut out sugary fluids and replaced them with water, I noticed a difference in my general physical and mental health. I made an effort to start my day with a cup of hot water with a slice of lemon before I had my coffee. I'm not a morning person so it took some planning the night before to make this happen. I cut out the extra steps by keeping water ready in an electric kettle (much quicker and quieter than a traditional stove top one). I also put out my thermas and pre sliced lemon inside. I soon learned that my brain was more alert by doing this than if I had started with just coffee.
Over time I began to noticed my mood was improving, my skin more clear, hair bouncier, and I wasn't having problems with digestion.
I try to keep at least one 16ounce bottle of water in my bag or on me in general at all times. It's so amazing for your health.
After spending 8 years in the humidity of South Carolina, my skin and hair had their own routine down. This past summer I moved to the Washington DC/Northern Virginia area underestimating the things dropping temps could do to my skin. The products I had previously used down South weren't on the level I needed them to be. I had to invest in the best products that fit my needs.
Nourishing your skin is one of those things that is so damn rewarding. I started leaving bottles everywhere. By all the sinks, in my handbag/work bag, by the bed, etc. I recommend Olay day/night cream paired with a nourishing Argan Oil for the face. I'm also obsessed with Au Lait Body Butter by The Scottish Soap Company.
MAKE YOUR BED
This isn't anyones favorite thing to do. Particularly mine. Who cares if you're the only one that's going to see it. It takes 5 to 7 minutes to do. You'll be thanking youself later because is there anything more satisfying than pulling back the tucked in sheets and crawling into a beautifully made bed?
Just try it. You'll see.
LAUGH ABOUT IT
With the stress and chaos of the holiday season behind us, some of us are still going through tough bouts of sadness and overall blahness. The days getting shorter and darker aren't doing anything to help either.
When I have a string of blah days I force myself to remember that I'm in charge of my life. I can choose to be happy or choose to be grumpy. I recommend the "Will This Matter.." approach. If whatever I'm upset about won't matter in 6 months, I find a way to laugh about it. When you put this into practice your general outlook on life with start to change (for the better). I found myself allowing me to smile more. It's liberating!
Just remember to be patient with yourself. Give yourself time. You're literally re wiring your brain! In the mean time, I recommend watching animals acting like puppies on the internet. You'll be smiling in no time.
